Unhappy I Want To Start A New Character But...

OK so I've been playing GW now for around a year & during this time I've only had one single character, an elementalist. With this character I've completed all 3 campaigns & also completed GW:EN. I do everything on this character.

I want to make another character to make use of my character slots & was thinking of trying out a melee profession. Seeing as I like attacking more than one thing at once (one of the primary reasons I picked the ele to begin with), I was thinking of choosing Dervish.

The thing is, I must have made a new Dervish around 5 times now, but every time I make him, give it 5 mins or so & I've deleted him. The reason for this is because I realise I'll have to go through the WHOLE NF campaign with him & I'm one of these people that has to do EVERYTHING, so I'd end up having to take him through ALL the campaigns + GW:EN, even though I've already completed them. This is the main reason that's putting me off making a new character.

If I could just make a new character & begin where my elementalist has left off, that would be great, but unfortunately that's not possible. In order to get to where my elementalist is now, I'd have to spend months on this new character doing the same thing I've just spent around a year doing on the ele. I'm worried that this will get extremely boring & repetitive, so I keep straying away from making a new character.

I mean, it doesn't even have to be a Dervish, it can be ANY profession I haven't tried yet. Another reason for not starting a new character, is the fact that I'll have to buy all new runes/weapons etc for my new heroes, which will cost a hell of a lot. I'm currently title grinding on my Elementalist which is already taking up a lot of my time/money ingame, and starting a new character will just hault this process & mean I have to spend yet even more money on this new char. Also, just looking at the completely empty map when pressing M on a new character just makes me think "uuurgh". It's annoying seeing that NONE of the map has been revealed, yet so much of it has been revealed on my ele.

I WANT to start a new character, but for the reasons stated above (and others not mentioned), it's pushing me away from the idea.

What do you guys think?

It's not too bad. I've managed to play through Factions and Nightfall in two weekends and a few hours during the week, though admittedly I missed a lot of side quests.

I do get out, all the time, I'm not your stereotypical skinny fat kid who sits at home full of grease because he doesn't wash & doesn't move from his PC, yet fills himself with crap food all the time etc etc. It's just that I like the game, and it helps to get a better experience in it, by putting some thought into things, unlike other games such as an FPS where minimal to no thinking is required

I guess I don't HAVE to do everything, but I mean if I needed to travel somewhere on the new character one day, only to realise I don't actually have that campaign or area unlock on him, then I'm screwed.

That's my problem, I'm obsessive in that way, I'd HAVE to do every single side quest I came up against or it'd be on my mind the whole time that there's a side quest back in that town I didn't complete.

I have made several carries over the years and yet i have only played with my first carrie. The need to conquer everything in the game is real. If you want to create a new carrie and not feel like you have to take them all the way through the game the i would suggest getting a Pre sear carrie and trying to get the Protecter of Ascalon title. It will give u a break from your main carrie without having the need to have her do absoutly everything. *grin*

Stick with your Ele and complete your Hall of Monuments, and get Max Title Rank.

If you seriously want to do everything on your character that is

yeah if your not going to enjoy going through the game again then don't make another character.
i agree with arduinna, fill your HoM and aim to get God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals.
if your still looking for something to do after that, pvp.

That's a great idea. I also had only one real PvE character for the same reasons as you stated. But Pre-Searing is great for a change. I made a pre-searing character and it's a great way to enjoy the game without having to play throught the entire story again.

I know where you're coming from. I feel the same way about my characters.
When I bought the game I created an Assassin but quickly found out that assassins were incredibly hard to play. I got her as far as Kaineng Center before losing interest. She is still on my account as a mule.

Next I created a factions Necro. She made it a bit further, but I never really had an interest in being a minion master and nobody wants a blood degen necro so she pretty much sits idle now too.

I then created a factions ranger which I've enjoyed, but rangering is not my strong suit. I use her primarily for trapping now.

I next created a warrior in prophecies and this character is my pride and joy. She is my main character and I've gone everywhere and done everything with her. My hall of monuments is filled just with her stuff.

I also created an elementalist in Nightfall and fell in love with eles. My ele has also gone everywhere but she doesn't dabble much in titles like my warrior. My goal is to vanquish everywhere with her though.

Of course I created a monk just so I'd have an easier time getting into pugs, however I soon discovered that monking just isn't for me. My monk doesn't get out much nowadays but I have plans to try the 55 build one day.

So now I play my warrior and ele all the time. I find that playing thru the missions and quests are entirely different experiences with them. Quests that my ele found extremely difficult, my warrior breezes right thru and vice versa.

If you're still reading after all that, here are my recommendations:
1. Create a new character. Something other than an Ele. You'll be a better player overall if you have experience playing different classes. Play the character long enough to get a feel for the playstyle of the class. If you find that you really don't enjoy the class then delete it. You'll have at least unlocked a bunch of non-ele skills in the process.

2. If you are going for completeness then try creating 1 of each profession. Determine that each character will complete their native campaign. Never take them over to another campaign unless you find that you really enjoy the class. Don't spend a lot of money on these chars buying weapons and armor. Just use what you have in storage. Delete them when you finish a campaign or keep 'em around for "specialty tasks" like 55 farming, UW trapping, Tombs necro, etc.

3. The pre-searing recommendation was a good one. Create a perma-pre character and go for the legendary defender title.

Since you have already completed all the campaigns and expansion with your ele it will be alot easier the second time around with whatever char you make. As far as buying runes and weapons and insignias for your new heros. You dont have to spend money on them right away cause you can easily get through any of the campaings with just your heros and the stuff you find. You will already know all the missions and NM is not hard and the 1 or 2 missions you might have trouble with there are usually people that will run it for a small fee. Also you can unlock new skills other than ele so that will also improve your heros for your ele or for any of the other chars you decide to make on the account. If you really wanted to you can get through all of GW:EN in a day in NM not including the Dungeons but you can unlock the entire map and get some of those titles real quick. Also sometimes it is easier to skip alot of the side quest until you have all or alot of the heros available for the chars so just do the primary quest to advance you through the story and unlock all the towns. When you think you have enough heros then go back and clean up all the side quest.

I would second the Pre Searing recommendation, Pre is almost a seperate game the way it operates.
Make a Pre character, set yourself to LDoA, or at least level 16/17.
If you can't stand to finish a game again, then I wouldn't say go through it all. I'd just stick with the Ele, get some more titles, etc.

Well, doubts about supercompletionism (yay new word, call websters) aside, most melee classes have AoE of some sort, just dervs can hit 3 foes if their bunched up and have tons of PBAoE adjacent/nearby. If you're interested in smacking a whole lot of stuff at once, Warriors with Whirling attack, cyclone axe, and/or triple chop can hit many more foes than a derv in 1 shot.

Beyond that you could just use the slots for PvP characters, test drive em and see what's good.

i got an idea how to cope with "supercompletionism" (lol):
accept every quest that you find, go early to other campaigns and accept every quest there, but only complete the primary quests. your questlog will be overfilled so you don't want to scroll down and have no idea where you should start with completing, and you (hopefully) won't have every quest in the back of your mind because of the massive amount.

perhaps you can convince yourself that you have to collect all quests

Make your dervish start from scratch You can earn coin along the way so no need for stealing from storage. Enjoy each character they all play different. It will be a good vacation from title grinding. Only way to get a level 20 off the bat is a PVP one. Which means no PVEEEEEEEEEEE.

Exclamation Rangers Rule

Rangers are the best overall character class available.

Not that I'm biased or anything.

guess I just dont understand.....I have had the game for almost 3 years---I made the first 4 characters in prophecies---and they did all of the story (including sorrows furnace and the titan quests)...when factions came out I made a few more characters---they have done all of factions (yes every one of the quests and missions available to them)...and my first two have gotten prot of tyria as well----nightfall came out...all those characters and some new ones have worked thru nightfall (and yes I have done all those 'noob' quests with more than one character---think its 5 elonians now).
In total I have 16 characters that have done almost all of the quests etc---they are still working on a few of them seeing as some are only a few months old---and prophecies is a long campaign!

so I just dont understand what it is you are asking....it is quite doable to do all the quests and missions for each chapter (and have a life outside of the computer)...

I dont think that is the problem, maybe redoing the beginners quests is stopping you???

but whatever, if you dont want to play another character thats fine ---there are MANY (especially now) that have picked just one character to focus on. You can always start another character, leave it be for a while and when you feel like working on it again, pick it up again----and still play the main character primarily. (in my opinion playing on just one character doesnt give you the full experience nor excitement of playing multiple characters---if you play more you learn more skills, you learn how each class functions etc.....)

so good luck to you.

Playing only 1 character for that long seems boring to me. There is a huge difference in each class. They have different skills, armor, weapons, team 'roles', etc. You haven't yet experienced all the game has to offer by only playing one character. You also learn more about how to use each character by playing the others. If you play a Monk, you learn what a Warrior should and shouldn't do. If you play a Mesmer, you learn what an Elementalist does and doesn't do. Those are just examples, but you can see how each class works by playing OTHER classes.

If you want to work on titles for your Ele, it will mean you spend time on that character. However, some of the titles can be helped by playing another character. For instance, if you want to work on Drunkard, you can play another character and use the Monastery Credits, Kournan Coins, etc. to exchange for Hunters Ale, Juniberry Wine, etc.

If you have done everything there is to do in the game on your Ele, wouldn't you be bored playing it still? How many times can you do a mission, quest, AB, etc. and find something new? Even PvP will get repetitive if only playing one class. Making a new character, you will do the same quests/missions again. However, there will be some that are different (profession specific quests), and since the character plays different, it will feel different. The story will be the same, but the way you experience it will be new.

I'd say stay with it, but if it bores you, then find a new game. I honestly don't know what would be interesting in the game if you have done it all, and don't want to do it again. PvP is the only option, but even that will get boring on the same class over and over again.
